December Astro Highlights

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

Before I dive into the major aspects and transits this month and what they mean for you, I'd like to talk a little more about Jupiter in Capricorn.

Jupiter is not particularly comfortable in earthy Capricorn because in Sagittarius, one of Jupiter's astrological "homes" (the other is Pisces), Jupiter magnified adventure, learning, teaching, and faith. In Sagittarius, Jupiter was on a quest like Don Quixote or Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

There was open and munificent energy to Jupiter's transit in Sagittarius that won't be felt in Jupiter's hike through Capricorn because Jupiter is joining Saturn (wisdom) and Pluto (transformation).

Here the planet of expansion sobers up.

The Universe is saying:

You've grown. You're wiser. Tougher. But also freer. More aware. And it will show this coming year.

You're ready to face the harsh realities of corruption, consumerism, and the climate crisis. You'll take ownership.

Capricorn is a sign of endurance and mastery. If you've started a book, for example, 2020 is the year you will finish it. It's a year of slow but steady progress.

I want to pause here to reflect on the word endurance because most of us think of endurance as "to continue without cessation" but endurance also means "to make sturdy, to make robust, to strengthen" and this is Jupiter in Capricorn's principal thrust.

Generally speaking, the signs that are going to benefit the most from Jupiter's transit in Capricorn are Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus (Earth signs) and Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces (Water signs). If you have any personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) in any of those signs you will also be blessed by this transit. However do keep in mind, there are other factors to consider too. Mercury retroshade ends

Mercury's shadow period ends tomorrow 7 December. This means that for the last two weeks Mercury has been retracing the same path it walked while in retrograde (in Scorpio).

Not everything is what it seems. Secrets are still being kept from you. Crucial or important information has been withheld. But from tomorrow onwards expect revelations and improvements in communications. If you've been waiting for news or feedback on a proposal or idea you'll probably hear back next week (and the timing will be most fortuitous). You can also expect to feel lighter and clearer on a number of issues.

Things to do:

  • Buy gadgets or apps.

  • Send proposals.

  • Sign a contract.

  • Clear the air. Have a heart-to-heart chat with a friend or loved one.

  • Burn incense.

Jupiter trine Uranus

On the 15th of this month, Jupiter (expansion, good fortune) will make an exact and lucky aspect (trine) to Uranus (sudden changes, genius). Expect lucky breaks, unexpected opportunities, and encounters if you put yourself out there. This is a great day (the16th too) to take a risk, break a few self-imposed rules and trust your gut.

Things to do:

  • Leave the house.

  • Start a conversation with someone you admire.

  • Attend a party.

  • Get that genius idea of yours down on paper.

  • Start a new chapter of your life.

Solar eclipse conjunct Jupiter in Capricorn

The Capricorn new moon is a solar eclipse on December 26th. I will write a separate post about this soon but this is going be a powerful new moon for manifesting. So start collecting magazine pictures now for your vision board!

Winter solstice (Northern Hemisphere) and Summer Solstice (Southern Hemisphere) December 21st

There is an exact square between Venus (love, relationships) and Uranus (sudden changes, revelations) on this day. This indicates a need to release "friends" that do not support you or your vision for your life. It's also worth noting that in ancient times the Winter solstice was the time to show forgiveness and share food. Who do you need to forgive? Make forgiveness part of your solstice ritual.

Things to do:

  • Light candles in seasonal colours (red, gold, green or white)

  • Honor your ancestors (regardless of your religion or faith. You can light a candle for them or visit a relative's grave)

  • Build a bonfire and celebrate life (Summer solstice)

Full moon in Gemini December 12

I will write a separate post about this next week, but as the last Full Moon of the decade, here is your chance to reflect on and release negative beliefs and baggage from your past.
