New Moon in Capricorn

New Moon at 12°20’ Capricorn (Jan. 2, 2022, 10:33 am PT).
The New Moon in goal-oriented Capricorn is a propitious start to the new year! But before we break down the chart let me start with a reminder. You set intentions a few hours after or even a day after the New Moon. You want the moon to have some light, the faintest crescent shape, before you set your intentions. January 1st is not the day for resolutions or intention-setting but late January 2nd (PT) and January 3rd are good days for resolutions.
I love this New Moon. Here’s why:
Take a minute to look at all the 2s in the above date and Sun and Moon positions. In numerology the number 2 is the number of balance, adaptability, polarity, insight and romance. In Tarot, the number 2 is associated with the High Priestess. In the tarot, according to Rachel Pollack, the feminine archetype is represented by two cards: The High Priestess and The Empress. The Empress - associated with Venus - is abundant and fertile and describes both the Mother and Queen archetypes. The High Priestess is the dark or more mysterious side of the Divine Feminine. She represents mystery, psychic forces, duality and “the power of the moon to stir up the unconscious”.
Another author, Jane Stern describes The High Priestess as:
Tapping into the mystery of your potential.

The Sun and Moon trine Uranus - the Great Awakener, and sextile (wide sextile) Jupiter in Pisces in this New Moon chart. This is a New Moon that not only brings epiphanies but encourages spiritual emancipation and the awakening to powerful new urges for change and freedom.
Venus Rx is very much at play in this event. Uranus is in Taurus and Taurus is ruled by Venus. Venus as I’ve already mentioned is about love which is not limited to relationships. There is a pull towards beauty which is made manifest through creative self-expression. Venus in retrograde asks you to “look back” and consider what brought you joy when you were a child. What was your preferred medium for creativity? Painting, dancing, acting, writing…
Lastly, there is more to Capricorn than greed, egoism and material gratification. Capricorn is the sign of world saviours and Sun Gods, so the evolved Capricorn has balanced both their head and heart and has spiritual aspirations. There are two gates in esoteric astrology. Cancer, the sign opposite Capricorn, is the door to incarnation (birth) and life experiences and Capricorn is the door to Spirit and the next life (reincarnation). It is in Capricorn that we as initiates, come to spiritual awareness, before moving on to Aquarius where we give our lives in service of others. There is a reason, Saturn-ruled Capricorn is the sign associated with the knees. Symbolically, it’s a reminder that on the quest for spiritual enlightenment, we find ourselves more often than not, bowed in humility and on our knees.
