New Moon In Leo
Updated: Aug 2, 2019
Let me start this post by asking you to think for a minute or two about the Moon.

What comes to mind when you think of our closest celestial neighbour?
Here are two words that inevitably come up when people describe the Moon:
Magical
Mysterious
Did those two words pop into your head too?
If they did, it's probably because the Moon is in fact magical! I know from personal experience that when you start working with the Moon's phases, your life will change in seemingly miraculous ways!
Now let’s talk about “vibes”.
Is there a specific energy you would connect with the Moon? Like, would you define the Moon as “feminine”?
If so, it makes sense because the Moon regulates not only the tides but also a woman’s menstrual cycle and the Moon is a traditional symbol for the Goddess, motherhood, family and fertility.
In astrology, the Moon governs our emotional responses, nurturing instincts, daily habits, the past and the subconscious.
Now before we dive into this month’s New Moon, here are some quick facts:
The Moon is a reflector. The Moon shines because it’s surface reflects light from the sun.
The Moon’s cycle of phases (there are 8 phases) takes about 29 days from start to finish.
The Moon travels through all 12 signs of the zodiac and spends just over 2 days in each sign.
A “waxing” Moon is increasing in light from New to Full.
A “waning” Moon is decreasing in light from Full back to New.
For thousands of years, people have worked with the Moon’s phases. Farmers and many gardeners still follow lunar calendars.

The New Moon
The New Moon phase is the phase of the moon when it is in conjunction with the sun and is therefore invisible from earth.
During this phase you should be paying close attention to any new ideas as this is the time the Universe showers us with inspiration and blessings. I’ve become accustomed to lightning bolts of inspiration in the shower or on my walks at this time of the month.
If you have not been tracking the lunar cycle and recording your dreams or ideas, today would be a good day to start keeping a journal.
This is also the best time to set intentions for the months ahead.
A few notes on HOW to set intentions:
Start a NEW MOON journal.
WRITE out every intention at least 3x. In my experience it is not enough to speak your intention.
Limit the number of intentions or wishes to 10. This is because you should make time to meditate on your intentions and visualize yourself attaining them. It's easier to visualize a max of 10 than it is say, 25 or 50 intentions.
Today’s New Moon is in LEO
Leo is the sign associated with bold self-expression, courage, ambition, creativity, risk-taking, children and romance.
So today is the perfect day to write intentions that correspond with those themes.
Here are a few examples on how to write your intentions as affirmations:
I see myself easily expressing my creativity.
I see myself taking courageous steps towards realizing my dream of becoming a ___________.
I see myself as a parent to a beautiful and healthy child.
I see myself receiving praise for my performance in ______________.
