Pluto Retrograde

Pluto, the planet of endings, rebirth, and transformation, stations retrograde today (25 April) at 24 degrees of Capricorn. Pluto will be moving backward until the 5th of October.
As a planet of transformation, Pluto doesn’t so much invite change as demand we de-toxify, exorcize, purge and obliterate the things that hold us back or prevent growth.
Pluto, or Hades (in Greek mythology), the dark lord of the Underworld is best known as Persephone’s abductor. Persephone’s release from the Underworld was eventually achieved when Zeus sent his messenger, Hermes (Mercury) to negotiate terms. Hades agreed to release Persephone if she hadn’t eaten anything while in his realm but because she had eaten the seeds of a pomegranate, she could only spend some months (Spring, Summer) on earth with her mother, Demeter, goddess of agriculture. Every year when Persephone returns to the underworld, the world descends into autumn and winter.

The next five months usher in a time of “losing our leaves like trees, so we can start again” (Robert Bly). On a global scale, Pluto in Capricorn continues to break down empires (structures of capitalism) expose secrets and strip away facades.
On a personal level, Pluto will ask us to work with our dark side. Greed, lust, revenge, malice, spite...all the things we hide or think we hide from others, will come knocking on the door. Open the door, sit with your shadow self awhile. Acquiesce.
Rebirth or regeneration is only possible when we allow change to happen. If you find yourself plummeting down into the abyss over the next few weeks know that you can grow wings on your down.
“Resist change at your own peril, Vivian. When something ends, let it end.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, City of Girls
