The Jewels Inside You

Last night I dreamed I carried a soft leather purse full of jewels with me as I wandered the streets of a strange city. Inside this purse, polished oval rubies and diamond necklaces fought for space with shiny gold coins and polished brass. There were many other weird and wonderful elements to this dream; a random apple tree growing out of a concrete sidewalk, an old school friend driving by in a car from the 80s…All messages from the subconscious and unconscious mind.
I’m sharing this dream with you because I think it sums up the current planetary aspects and the grand invitation to look inside yourself for the treasure you seek.
We are all born gifted. Not necessarily academically gifted with IQ scores of 130 or over but gifted nonetheless with innate abilities and unique personalities. Maybe you know you were born to dance or play the ukulele but suppress these abilities. Maybe you already dance but only on weekends at the clubs or in the privacy of your bedroom - because you’re not ready to commit or because you don’t actually believe you’re as good as everyone else says you are.
Or maybe you just don’t know what you have to give to the world.
Undiscovered gifts are like the treasure in a sunken galleon. They lie dormant if you've experienced trauma or if your sense of self was repressed or even shattered in childhood.
There are many ways to uncover these gifts.
I’m going to list three:
Have your birth chart read by an experienced astrologer
Psychotherapy
Spiritual awakening
Have your birth chart read by an experienced astrologer
A birth chart will reveal your character and personality, your innate gifts, and opportunities and areas of weakness or potential conflict. A birth chart reading will help you gain a sense of purpose.
Transformational psychology or therapy
Astrologers were the first counselors - way before the birth of psychology - so it's no surprise that many therapists are open to the idea and even encourage people to have their natal charts read. That said, a great therapist will help you retrieve those parts of yourself that are lost or suppressed.
Spiritual awakening
My favourite definition of spirituality is this one by Brother David Steindl-Rast:
“Sometimes people get the mistaken notion that spirituality is a separate department of life, the penthouse of our existence. But rightly understood, it is a vital awareness that pervades all realms of our being. Someone will say, “I come alive when I listen to music,” or “I come alive when I garden,” or “I come alive when I play golf”. Wherever we come alive, that is the area in which we are spiritual.”
This week’s invitation is this:
Where do you come alive?
And,
How can you do more of that?
